Here's a cyber-valentine for all my MSing buddies... (except those who BAH-HUM-BUG the whole sappy ordeal )

http://www.gagirl.com/pu/val/feb11-52251.html

Does anyone have special plans or traditions they feel like sharing?

We don't do anything terribly special usually, but I'll help Skye address her cards for school tonight ... and David sent carnations (through a school fundraiser project) to several of his female friends, though he keeps saying they are JUST friends, NOT girlfriends ... and I have no idea what hubby will do ... last year he sent me some DELICOUS chocolate dipped strawberries (which are a personal favorite of mine) from an on-line shop called Shari's Berries - http://www.epinions.com/content_90001608324 ... but this year are a bit tighter and as luck would have it his car is in the shop and we're just praying it won't cost a fortune ... so I guess our V-day bucks may be spent on car repairs! How romantic, eh?

Goodness Elaine! I just read your article and feel like I need a cold shower. That was ALL I needed for Valentines! Oops, don't tell my husband.

To tell the truth this is one holiday that I tell my husband I REFUSE to celebrate.

Reasons why?

The cost of roses just went from $9.99 to $49.99. If he can't buy me flowers at any other time of the year then the one they jack up the prices for, I don't want it.

Going out to dinner is ridicules. You have to wait forever. (then I found out that someone scheduled me for a lunch shop that day)

Buying me something in Red at $50-$100 when he could have bought it the week after Christmas and save it till now at about 1/8 of the cost.

He tells me I'm one in a million, most woman demand that their mate get them something or he** will be paid. Not me, Id rather be surprised everyday with an I love you or something small and special then saved it for one day so the stores can make mega bucks.

Hey, did you know that chocolate freezes well. Think of what you can buy two days after valentines day for a couple of bucks that before that day would have cost $50 and you see what I mean. I guess this should have been put under frugal.

Whew! We have no special plans as we are both working on Saturday plus we are in the process of moving. I want to go to the movies on Monday so that is our plan!

I happen to like Valentine's Day for one special reason - it's my birthday!

We usually don't go out that night since it is too pricey or busy. I have no ideas for what we are doing this year. I know one thing I am not doing - any shopping unless it is for myself!

Several hard games of raquetball and a soy mocha will do the trick for me this year. My husband wanted to make dinner reservations for us but I asked for raquetball instead. I have many wonderful dinner shops coming up next week and I'd rather play at the YMCA then hit the hot tub. He's so glad (and grateful I had an idea) that he's cancelling his Friday afternoon appointments to play with me!

Happy Birthday Heather! My dad's birthday was yesterday ... the day after Valentines!

And I totally agree with those who mentioned the inflated prices!!!! My mom told my dad NOT to get her any flowers on V-day ... but they went to the grocery store the next day and she 'let' him buy her a dozen long stem red roses with greenery and baby's breath for ... $5 ... I saw them yesterday and they were every bit as beautiful as any others I'd seen delivered on Valentine's Day.

My hubby was VERY sweet ... he made a heart shaped cake and iced half in chocolate (which is my favorite) and half in coconut (which he loves) ... the kids got a big kick from the shape. But what makes it so special is that he baked it at about 7 o'clock saturday morning when he got home from work while I was sleeping soundly in bed and he didn't even wake me up!

Well, this year is definitely different than all of the past Valentine's Days with DH. We usually exchange gifts and go out for a nice, romantic dinner somewhere. This year, we're spending the weekend (and probably VD night) lying on the couch, sharing a few boxes of tissues. I got the flu a few days ago, and gave it to DH just in time for the holiday. How romantic!!

Stephanie, I'm with you. My boyfriend and I don't celebrate the holiday--we say I love you every day, buy eachother presents whenever we can, enjoy meals out now and then... we don't need a holiday for it! Last year, I think I got him a card and baked him cookies, and he brought me a rose. That's about the extent of it! Besides, my birthday is 10 days from V-day, and we're going on a weekend trip... save the money (and presents ) for then!

I have wanted to eat at an upscale pricey ($100 and up) restaurant for years for a very special occasion. I kept applying for it as a mystery shop and prayed this Valentine's I'd get lucky.

Yippee - I got it. The restaurant is booked V-Day but we are going the next night. Now that's a great gift.

We did one of those upscale steak houses on Saturday. Kept the cost at the over $1**.** reimbursement. Very nice dinner and the report was not that hard just long.

Well, it would certainly make my mother very happy, but I'm hoping I don't follow in your footsteps...at least yet! DH and I are just happy with the dog right now. I guess we'll have to settle for that romantic box of Kleenex

My DH and I usually celebrate the day after Valentine's Day, because that was the day we first met in person. This year, however, we will have no celebration at all. I am in Taiwan visiting my mom and my grandma, and he is on a cruise (Navy) overseas.

Thanks,
Selene

I have no special plans for Valentine's Day except to eat chocolate, of course!

I have hopes that an actual living, breathing Valentine for me might appear before then, but I'm not holding my breath!

Happily shopping the Portland, Oregon metro area!

For some reason, my favorite mass merchandise shops were available to do only on 2/14. I couldn't, just couldn't, stop myself from self assigning even though I'll have to do them after work. Hubby says, "Cool" you do the reports and I'll order a pizza. I wouldn't want to face a restaurant that night so it's perfect!

Our wedding anniversary is February 9 (will be 9 years!) so we usually try to combine plans for anniversary and Valentine's Day. Often we try to plan a vacation or even a weekend getaway for that time. This year, we don't have plans for the 9th or the 14th, but we are going to Atlantic City from the 19th-21st. Even better -> I got a shop to cover one of the hotel nights! Of course we are taking the kids, so it won't be all that "romantic," but it will be lots of fun, I hope.

For most of my life I just gritted my teeth and said here comes the Hallmark Holiday. Although when I lived close by my Dad in Connecticut, always had a Valentines's surprise hidden someplace for my sister and I. I'd come by and spruce up his place and he would say something like hand me the salt shaker or fork. Where ever I first reached in would be the hidden chocolate heart-shaped candy box. Now this is my first Valentine's in which I can share the special day with my love We will eat out but most likely save the fancier place for shortly after Valentine's since that day the eating places are so crowded.

We just bought a new front-loader washing machine. I don't think there will be anything special! I will be extremely happy with my daily snuggles and heart full of love.

Since finding out he reads this forum occasionally, I won't post what I have planned for my husband, but Olivia and I are scheming.

What better way to spend Valentines Day than satisfying the need for speed. We'll be in Daytona for the NASCAR races!! Woo Hoo Romantic, NO. Super Fun, YES YES YES.
