Thanks jenny41! You're right in my state they do pay a little more than others. Here it's 10 to 12 an hr. for Acosta on the ASAP team. Other states it's less.

I'm also beginning to see some ads from Acosta in my geographic area for "Retail Coverage Specialists" to "scan shelf tags via hand-held scanners collecting store level information." I'm wondering if this is the same thing Retail Data does (checking store prices, sometimes without the store's permission, almost like mystery shopping) or something else. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

David,

That's what I'll be doing. The store knows that you are there. We're supposed to sign in on the vendor book and contact the manager before we start working. Every time.

Ann? If you are still around, did you receive the email they spoke of on the conference call? It's a pdf file that gives a break down of the job. I haven't received it yet.

^ What happened?

P.S. All the "Retail Coverage Specialist" ads for my area have disappeared. I figure they've either filled all their openings, or have suspended their hiring for some reason.

Well, I'm not in management so I can't say for sure. But, in Texas, they filled all the spots really quick. I hadn't ever applied with them before and I got a phone call. One of the area managers had given recruiting my name. I'm guessing they pulled it off of Narms, not sure. Anyway, there were lots of openings and they quickly dwindled. I checked every day.

There have been lots of problems so it could be that they pulled all the openings until they get the kinks worked out. They started off by saying that they want 300 products checked and scanned in 3 hours. That's 100 products per hour. That's a bit too much for me. I bowed out today. Too bad, because I really like the work. I just can't manage their time limit. WM is a big place and it's hard to find that many items so fast. Each store has a different list that differs from week to week. Some areas I'm really familiar with and some I'm not. Plus, they didn't tell me the truth about my route from the get go. They had me driving way out of the range they initially stated. Some stores were 110 miles away (one way). That's a lot of driving when they said they would all be close together initially. Communication isn't so good with this particular program, so I understand that the people I talked to weren't well informed. They hired hundreds of people across the country all at once, so it really has been a big mess. I bet that, later on, it will turn out to be good.

Tammy, I'm thinking the same thing. It is an absolute joke. I don't know what's worse- the 300 scans in three hours or constant equipmant failures. They are going to lose a lot of people. I was at a store today and only scanned about 60 things in 2 and half hours never knowing that my scanner wasn't even working properly. I have to do eight stores this week. I figure it will take me at least 7 hours in each store and now I've lost a whole day. I won't last.

Ann, I was supposed to do eight stores this week too. Every week, actually. Today it took me 7 hours to do one store. I did the math and that was 1.4 minutes per item. Considering how many different departments I had, how far apart they are, and how some are incredibly difficult (like toys, hardware, and auto) I really don't feel like 1.4 minutes per item is too bad of an output. I just gave up and came home after the first store. No way am I working until midnight. Even so, my UM says it all has to be uploaded before 10:00 anyway, so there was no point in doing the second store. I just came home and quit.

Keep hope, though. Maybe once so many people fail they'll realize that they have 'unrealistic expectations'. That or they'll just except inaccurate data. Who knows?

Did you manage both stores today?

Oh My goodness Tammy!! 100 products in 1 hour? That's crazy!! I'm glad that i got hired for the ASAP team then. I did the driving almost 3 hours one way to get my stores done for another company,i don't want to do that again. Sorry to here it was a mess. I hope you are able to find something else. Are you into demos? I just got hired several weeks ago for Chuck Latham doing puppy food demo's which is so easy, just talking to people in a pet store.

Tammy,
No, I did not do two stores. I was supposed to. They lied to me also about the distance- they told me no more than 25 miles. I am supposed to do two stores in one day this week each are about 200miles round trip. I'm not doing them. There have been to many problems for me to drive that far and then have the stupid scanner not work or to run out of power- even with the power pack. 3+ hours driving time, 7+ hours in each store... I don't think so. It's not like they're paying me $20 an hour. Also, my cell phone is a prepaid so I wouldn't even be able to call tech support if I have problems which there surely would be. They told me when hired that I would be working 24 to 32 hours. This week I'm scheduled for 36. I can't even tell you how angry, disappointed and frustrated I am. Any idea when we get paid for the brilliant training?

Thanks Kelly. There's an RCM position open in my area that I just applied for. The only thing is you must be able to lift 60 pounds. Was that a requirement for your job (ASAP)? Do you lift that much often? I like Acosta as a whole. It's just this one program that's so crazy because it is new. I don't think they had enough time to get things organized before starting it up. And yeah, 100 per hour. Even my manager said he couldn't do it and he can find just about anything in WM with his eyes closed - he's worked there for so long.

Do you know when pay day is? Ann asked and I have no idea when we are to be paid. I've been focusing on all the other stuff. We had a lot thrown at us last week, all last minute.

Ann, if anyone can understand how disappointed and frustrated you are it's me. And a lot of other people too, I bet. Fingers crossed they get it all worked out.

About your scanner... we got an email yesterday that said not to scan anything because they are draining the power too much. Did you get that email? Ask your UM...

Update

My UM called me yesterday and asked if I could do one store a day for this week. I said yes and we'll see how it goes from here. He's trying to reduce the number of stores I have as well. They're still expecting us to get the hang of it and be able to do it in 3 "or 4" hours, though. Fingers crossed.

How are you doing Ann?

Tammy,
Not doing great. I did six stores of eight this week and didn't finish any. Av. number of "scans" 150 in three hours. How did you do?

Do you have any idea why exactly we are doing this job? A guess? I mean how do you think WM will be using this data?

Any other SPARC team members out there? Please join in. It would be great to hear what you have experienced with scheduling and how you are doing with the actual scanning.

I've been getting faster and faster. Don't know if I'll ever be able to do it in 3 hours, but maybe I will. Ann, are you sorting by departments? That helps a lot. For grocery, I just scroll through the list according to the aisle I'm on. I don't run back and forth from aisle 7 to aisle 1, etc. I'm sure I look like a maniac, though. I'm just short of breaking into a run between departments...

Otherwise, I really enjoy this job. In fact, I love it! I'm busy, occupied and getting exercise (lots, lol) while being paid.

Don't worry too much. I'm sure we'll get faster as we keep going. If we can't keep up then at least we earned some money while we tried!

Two weeks ago I went through the online training and was given my " store list" originally I was suposed to have 2 stores locally, I found out I was to have 7. Two in North carolina 150 miles from where I live. The new program was for walmart MOD checks and complaince. We were to follow 4 days on and three days off in order to do the work, and the rulesincluded we could only be in store from 9-6 pm and had to be in store for 4 hours. This was just not going to work for 7 stores and over 500 miles drving just for the NC work. I asked to have the NC stores given to another lady in that area who only had 2 stores, and I was so bluntly told,. all or nothing. I took nothing after wrestling and testing otu teh route, whcih left me stuck in both the gorge and the mountains for a few hours. I also had a medical appointment that I had no idea was even coming up, I had put in for it over a year ago, and the DM was very upset that i didnt tell her about it. I mean after a year of trying to get a medical appointment and you hear nothing do you think to tell everyone? no. I didnt even know I had been approved for the appointment, until a day before I was supposed to be at the clinic and to start work( which they gypped me out of my training pay).
I know its a new division and there are bugs and I really notw that I am cleared and I dont have bad kidneys,I would love to have the five local stores.
But heres some words of advice if you get on with acosta for the newe walmart project, be careful who you talk with, and make sure that the locations of the stores and the rules are logical. Otherwise there will be be problems and possibly immediate termination.
I'd love to work with them, snd my health, being diabetic often overlaps. Even though they are a EEOC accomodations compliant company, I think the DMs need a bit of temperance in how they handle things.

Just wondering if anyone else who worked in the Omega division had to resubmit an application and take a drug exam to now be with Acosta. I was told everyone was changing to Acosta and everyone else had to do this also but I haven't seen anyone post about this. I found out about it when I accepted a job on my home page and then got an email stating all the above. A lot of hassle just to get a one hour job about every month from them. I'm not sure it's worth it. I did the application again and also the drug test but now have to meet with my DM to fill out all the paperwork for an IP which I did over 4 years ago. Seems ridiculous to me.
