For me, It would have to be the nearly constant drones of lawnmowers and leaf blowers in the neighborhood. I wish they would make noiseless machines :)

Aaaarrgh! How do I dislike Summer in Texas.....let me count the ways! The first year I spent in Texas, in the month of April I thought we were already having summer weather because it was in the 80s everyday! Boy was I in for a shocker...I think that was the year we had about 30 consecutive days of 100+ temperatures starting in about July. That made me long for the "chilly" days of April. And it's not "dry" heat either. It's that oppressive, heavy, dirty-feeling air that sticks to you. It gets so blasted hot here in the summertime that you have to keep your car windows open a teensy bit when you park in a lot, or the windows will explode! But other than the heat, Austin is neat!

I really hate bees! I know they have a job to do, but my goodness, leave me alone! LOL It seems like they search me and my oldest son out just to bother us. Mosquitos!!! Mean little devils!

I vacationed in Austin TX in the summer of 1989, and I am here to tell you, IT IS HOT! Allthough I got a kick out of a place my Aunt and Uncle took us to, Hippy Hollow! It is a nudeist beach. LOL, they didn't tell us untill we got there! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the River Walk. I don't remember all the places we went while in Texas, but we did have a GREAT time.

I'm not asleep....I'm checking for light leaks! :)

Gosh, I love spring and summer. The only thing I even slightly dislike would be the humidity. I can deal with everything else!

For spring it would be:
Allergies and those damn cottonwood trees that blow "snow" in the spring time.

I love summer.

I despise the allergies, but I have medication to take care of that.

I have to agree with hating the bees. Bees, hornets, yellow jackets, wasps and those great big buggers - the carpenter bees.

I was out on my deck last week, soaking up some long awaited sunshine. Starting to get that nice, nappy feeling going. Then all of a sudden...BZZZZBZZBZBZBZBZBZBZB DAMN! Big ol' bumblebee the size of a kitten! Ruined my nap.

The bugs. All of them, especially the stinging ones.

The lawn mowers... I live in an apartment complex and have a small patch of grass outside of my living room porch. They usually come around at 8am in the summers to cut it. Now, if it's a work day--no problem. If it's a sleeping-in day... AHHH!

I hate the temperature. Outside is hot and sticky, inside is too cold. I can't get comfy in the summer. I love fall and winter... I can bundle up for the cold, but one can only get so unclothed before one gets arrested.

I also hate thunderstorms. HAAAATE them. Leftover childhood fear, I guess. I hate the threat of tornadoes, too. Severe weather scares me.

But, on the upside, I enjoy longer daylight hours, warm evening walks and bike rides, outdoor festivals and the promise of fall!

This is an easy one!!! Let's just say I start getting "anxious" about spring/summer in February because the heat and humidity arrive in March...sometimes earlier...sometimes it's just one long year of heat and humidity!!

Since it's so tropical here, we enjoy the lawnmowers and leaf blowers year round because everything keeps growing like crazy.

If your air conditioner breaks down, you have to go to a hotel until it's repaired. There is no way you can get through the night. If the A/C in your car is broken, you die young!! The closest I come to being exposed to the heat is going from my house to my garage to get into my car. I even have a ceiling fan in my garage. It doesn't help much, but it's better than nothing!

Carolyn, I've lived in TX almost all my life, but I've never heard of Hippy Hollow...much less a nudeist beach. Where is this place?

I absolutely hate to be hot and sweaty. I hate to go outside then come back in the house dripping wet because of the heat. I take two or three showers a day when it is hot because I feel so miserable.

Oh yes, I forgot the most important thing...I really don't like how the heat makes my pantyhose stick to my legs. Some of you will think I'm crazy for wearing them in the summer, okay, all of you!!!

Oh my gosh, and I thought Arizona was bad! I lived 13 long, miserable years in Tucson and Phoenix and thought I was going to die every single day of the 9 months out of the year that are summer.

The heat is unbearable and relentless. Over 100 degrees? Try over 105 degrees, and closer to 115 and 120 throughout the summer. I don't care how 'dry' the heat is, it's still ~HOT~. Why anyone would want to live there is beyond me. You couldn't pay me enough to go back there to live. A short visit I could deal with (as long as I could complain about the heat the whole time, or stay indoors in air conditioning nonstop).

All I can say to those of you living in Texas is GET OUT while you can! I once flew to Washington, DC in the heat of summer and thought I was going to melt right there on the steps out of the plane. There is no way I could ever live in such humidity, combined with that much heat. That's equally as unbearable as the dry heat of Arizona.

This is exactly why I chose the San Francisco Bay Area to live for the past 30 or so years. They have the mildest year-round weather anywhere in the country. Too bad everybody and their brother is getting the same idea, now it costs too much to live there. Having to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet is not worth the great weather there, especially if all you do is work and you never have time to enjoy the weather.

Happily shopping the Portland, Oregon metro area!

#1 has to be BUGS! Just two days ago, I was walking the dogs and there were TWO beehives on the way to the park. I had two dogs and my daughter, and I just turned around and RAN all the way home. Didn't stop for anything, I've never ran that fast in my life, but what do you do when there is a SWARM of BEES (ever seen the movie "My Girl"??) Then there are mosquitos and West Nile Virus, of course, you cannot control if someone that lives near you has a hidden pot of mucky water, next thing you know, you are really sick and almost dead...HORRIBLE!

#2 is living near the ocean and it gets super cold in the morning, so I wear a winter coat, then by noon its like 95 degrees and I have to lug the darn coat around w/ me.

#3 Summer traffic is terrible, there are tourists everywhere and you cannot park at the beach or any attraction, even on weekdays! Then there are the Summer fires everywhere.

But I really do like the longer hours, I wish we could do away with standard time so I would not get so worried about West Nile Virus while BBQing at the beach in the Winter.

Mimi, I'm not sure exactly where it is, but I'm sure it is near Austin or in Austin. That is where they lived. I know they went every weekend, and even had t-shirts with naked cartoon people in the shapes of the letters that spelled "Hippy Hollow". It is a lake and people were fishing and swimming, some clothed and some not. It has been 16 years ago since I was there, and the exact location may be tucked away in my failing memory, LOL, but I can't seem to locate it.
EDIT: I found the web site for Hippie Hollow(corrected spelling)

Thanks Carolyn...now that makes sense!!

Back in the 60's, when all the hippies and flower children were alive and well, Lake Travis was a big gathering place for all those who believed in peace and love. Since Austin is the home of the University of Texas, they used to have this giant celebration every year called Roundup. The hippies would come from all over and camp out at Lake Travis (back then it was legal), and non-hippies would come to watch the hippies!!! There would be lots of music, both Jazz and Country Western, great food and art exhibits.

Back then, Roundup was THE place to be if you were in a TX high school or college. My parents would not allow us to go because they had heard of the dreaded hippies who attended. One year, my parents were out of town and several of my high school buddies were going to drive down. Of course, I jumped at the chance and went with them, figuring my parents would never find out. WRONG!! We hadn't been in the city limits of Austin five minutes when who do I run into, my older sister who was a student at UT at the time!! I believe I was grounded for about six months, but I had a great time at Roundup!!!

HU-MI-DI-TAY! Besides the discomfort and the way it clogs my brain, it ruins my hair.

And the bugs.

Linda, you may hate the heat of AZ, but believe, 105 there is a lot more comfrortable than 85 here in PA when it's humid -- and when is it not humid here?

1. Having to plan activities for three kids (camp, training, sports...)
2.Having to pay for activities for three kids.
