$2.69 now. I paid $2.66 after the 3 cents Kroger discount. Hubby got my 10 cents off yesterday. He doesn't even have the same loyalty card number, but it works every time.

GRRR!!! It's irritating here in Idaho!! I afraid we have some price gouging retailers or suppliers or something. It seems over on the east side of the US prices are coming down to the $2.60-range and we still are $2.95-ish. Supposedly our prices and supply weren't affected because our gas comes from California...but you sure can't tell by our prices!!

Donnabella - Your prices might have been higher to begin with compared to our area. If I remember correctly, we were around $2.43 before Katrina hit. You have to use the pre-Katrina prices as a base of comparison to see, if your gas price goes down proportionally.
As far as I know, the northern states have traditionally been on the higher end of the gas prices. When we moved here from the Chicago area a couple of years ago, the gas prices were 50 cents cheaper then what we had to pay up there (and in our little town just about 70 miles away from Chicago, it was 20 cents cheaper than Chicago gas).
Just food for thought...

It's finally leveling off here in the Detroit Metro area to around $2.59/gal. for regular. That's down $.80/gal. from what it was just 16 days ago. Whew!

It seems to me the whole market is in a state of flux. Stations seem to be charging whatever they feel like. I did 3 gas station shops yesterday and paid 2.55, 2.65 and 2.86.

It's $2.69, except for a speedway truck stop that charges $2.79. They finally came down from $2.99 when everyone else dropped to $2.69 from $2.79. There are gas stations 5 miles either direction that charge $2.69. Guess that gas station, even though they sell a lot more gas than everyone else, get charged that much more.

Why do I not believe they are only making a couple pennies for profit on gas?

It's $2.48/gal. regular now, another $.11 drop in 4 days. It's lower here now than before Katrina hit. Hopefully this is a trend that the rest of the country will see, and soon.

I filled up last night, and paid $2.68 for regular unleaded, at the Sam's Club member discount price. That's $.30 less than it was the last time I got gas.

Some of the higher-priced stations are still selling in the $2.89 to $3.09 range.

Happily shopping the Portland, Oregon metro area!
