Yes, it will go up again shortly, now that the oil companies can fall back on Rita as the reason.

Does anyone else feel that the oil companies are conditioning us to view anything less than $3.00 as a "bargain" and something to be "happy" about?

OH Gosh Nora! YES! I have felt this way for some time now. Just like milk being almost $4 per gallon or over. I think that is exactly what is going on. Then when the price falls under $3 or so, we get all excited that we are getting a great deal. When actually we are spending more than we did a year or even months ago. Believe me, I know where you're coming from.

I'm not asleep....I'm checking for light leaks! :)

We all know the oil companies have been conditioning us for years . . . that's how the game is played. As long as they can continue getting away with it, they will.

Happily shopping the Portland, Oregon metro area!

This is old news by now, but...

http://www.freep.com/news/statewire/sw121577_20050920.htm

Perhaps if everyone contacted their own state officials, en masse, and made it clear that their political futures might rest on this issue,we would see more rational prices at the pump.

Actually, it was hard to write that without laughing...my guess is that, with oil companies being heavyweights in the arena of political gifting, we are just going to hear more mindless blather about prices being used as inventory control, supply disruption...the usual blah blah blah.

Yes, fill up NOW!
I filled my SUV up last night and it cost $63.00 with the price at "only"(ha) 2.80 per gallon.
I also had 2 five gallon jugs filled to store in my shed.

To top it off, they say that natural gas (which is what I use) is going to go up 70%!!
Well at least I won't have to spend a lot of time getting dressed to go out this winter, because my coat, hat and gloves will all ready be on!!!

I shop Vineland, Deptford, Mays Landing and Atlantic City, NJ

Tonight many gas stations are taking down their prices because they are rising them tomorrow. I heard anywhere from $1.25-$1.99 MORE a gallon. I filled up tonight.

I went to four gas stations last night and they were all sold out of gas. Fortunately a person from one of the news stations was at a station several blocks from me at 6:30 this morning and said they had just received more gas so I rushed down and got mine. It was $ 2.53 but I imagine it went higher through the day.

Gas here has been edging downward. It hovered at $2.91 for a while, then went down to $2.79 on Thursday. Rita didn't make it go up again -- it's still at $2.79.

it's going down here again too. Though I'm a little peeved cuz the first place that caught my eye had a huge sign that said "pay cash, and we'll pass the savings on to you" which I assumed meant right there and then, so I used what cash I had on me to pay 2.67 which seemed like a baragain, only to find out, the next three gas stations also had 2.67-2.69. Isn't doing stuff like that illegal?
