I just completed 6 yellow clamshell shops and I paid between $4.17 and $4.70!

On the national news yesterday, they announced that $4/gal gas was a thing of the past. I sure wish someone would tell the retailers around here because I sure haven't seen gas anywhere for under $4. The independents are selling for about $4.11.

Dang, as soon as the news announced that oil went up $3 due to a bigger than expected drop in US oil supplies the stations around town raised prices by 20 cents. I knew it wouldn't last.

I'm right there with ya! As I said a few posts up the thread, it has been so long since gas here has dropped below $4 that I honestly can't remember how long. If it ever manages to get below $4 again, I will be cheering, but I'm sure not gonna hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

It does not make sense why oil went up due to a bigger than expected drop in US gas supplies. Um, I read somewhere that the reason for a bigger than expected drop is gas supplies is because the refineries aren't refining as much because of the demand has dropped. Of course the supplies are going to drop when they aren't making as much.

Gretta, any excuse will do. As long as they can raise the price again....

Ours is 3.63 here right now. Funny how that seems like a bargain these days.

Sue, where did you find full service???? Didn't know anyone did that anymore. Depending on what city you are visiting in the Bay Area, some stations have come down to $3.95 for regular. Sounds like you were on the peninsula which hasn't seen much of a drop at all.

Gas here has gone up an ubelievable 50 cents a gallon over the course of the day, with more increases predicted. I am assuming it is because of the hurricane but, heck, it hasn't even hit yet. Since 25% of US gas is refined in the Houston area I am sure the gas here comes from there.

Yes, gas jumped in some areas by $1 here. They are crazy. The governor declared it price gauging and they said on the news to report those stations immediately. They'll be find $5,000 for each violation. I guess they expect mass devastation down there especially to the raffineries. Of course our problems with Venezuela are not helping either. They are our 4th biggest oil resource.

I remember how people raised prices like that after Katrina, and even 9/11.

Gas here this morning was 3.59, at 1:00 pm it was 3.79, now it is at least 3.99 at every station and they are all full of people trying to get gas. They are asking that you only get 10 gallons at a time so there will be 'enough to go around'. One store owner told a trusted member of our community that it is going to go up at least another $1.00 before the end of the weekend. I heard on the news that in Jackson, MS (about 150 miles south of here) it is already over 5.00.

We're 50 miles south of Angela, and 100 above Jackson MS. This morning most were around $3.45. Husband just filled up at the cheapest place for $3.81 but most stations are near $4 here now. He could only pump $50 and most stations here are doing that.

This morning there was a small town station another 50 miles South which had prices already posted of $6.12. I know - I didn't believe it either, but got that from two people who drive through that area.

This is me hitting my head on the wall. There isn't an icon for kicking myself in the butt. I am going to visit my son this weekend, leaving tomorrow. Approx 300 mi round trip which takes 3/4 tank of gas. Stopped at a local Royal Farms this AM & bought $25 worth of gas @ $3.39 gal. There is an Exxon station a little further north (50 mi) that always has gas about 10 cents cheaper so the plan was to finish filling up on the road tomorrow at the cheaper price. Need I say more. I don't even want to see the price tomorrow . I'm just going to pray it hasn't jumped too drastically from today.
