I love working with Maritz! They are one of the most consistent companies I work for. I love that I get paid on time and can actually talk to live people when I have a problem. Sometimes the paperwork is a bit slow. I wish there was a way to download more of it. However, I will take a Martiz shop anyday of the week!!

I have done LOTS of service station shops, three different types, in the last few months, and I think the folks at Maritz are the greatest!

Well, I liked the idea of using the gas station's gift card to pay for my gas, so I stopped by today and asked about them. The cashier told me that the card CANNOT BE SWIPED at the dispenser, but can be used inside the store to pay for the gas............If that's the case, then we can't use it at the pump??? Has anyone actually tried swiping the gift card at the pump?? I think I will stop in another station and see if the cashier tells me the same thing. If anyone has actually used one of these gift cards, please let me know how it turned out! And yes, I have called my scheduler about using them...that was a good point also...we all need to be sure if something like that is OK.

I have swiped gift cards at the pump for a long time. My family has been doing it for the last 10 years. We started when we could buy them as a fundraiser for the school. Now I use them all the time at the pumps. Obvisously that should be a question we should ask the cashier.

Whether they want that/or will accept it, I don't know.

PatS..........and anyone else that has used gas cards,

Were the gift cards you used for gas actually able to be SWIPED at the pump?? I ask because this is one of the requirement for the particular shop Maritz has. (Others they have don't require this, but this one does).
My scheduler said I could use a gift card at the pump, but before I actually get one, I want to be sure that it will work at the pump and not require me to go in and get my gas receipt at the cashier station.
Was your gift card an actual gas gift card for the station that you got gas at??
Thanks for any input!!

It worked just like a credit card would at the pump. It would print out the remaining balance and everything. I had absolutely no problems with them.

Well it happened to me yesterday!!! My credit card got temporarily placed on hold!!! I only had one more to do and the card declines, I call the bank and they say they do not see it declining. I figured maybe the strip was going bad, as it let me pay inside at a different location. But then it declined again last night at the grocery store!!! I called this morning and they asked if I had been buying alot of gas in small amounts. I told them I was an auditor and they apologized and removed the block and made a note that I tend to make alot of small, repetitive purchases.

If you can, and are doing several of these within a few days, I would call your CC company and notify them ahead of time so they can make a note on your account! Now I have to go back to that station today and try again!

Agreed........I did two gas shops yesterday without a problem but today when I went to do one..........my card would not go through. So I simply used a different card. Usually,I could get three to got through. Perhaps, with the high cost of gas, they are keeping a closer look on cards because of possible theft of your card.

I have just applied to them today to do a gas shop and two mail facility shops......I haven't actually gotten the assignments yet, I just signed up to be one of there mystery shoppers so I have never done an assignment for them yet. But I am wondering is, if these shops are something that I don't want when or if they assign them to me do I still have the option of canceling them without getting myself bumped from their shoppers list? I'm a little confused on the small amount of details that I read on the assignments so I'm still not sure about what they (the shops) completely consist of.

Has anyone ever done a mail facility shop for them? I see the compensation but there is no reimbursement on them. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I live on shops from them. Do gas shops as often as I can. I do mail as often as I can. There is a reimbursement (at least the ones I do), it just depends on each shop. They aren't too bad (if you consider working with government employees fun- no offense to anyone). You will probably not mind doing them.

Hello me again........

I was wondering can anyone tell me just how long it generally takes this company to let you know if you have gotten an assinment that you requested? I have applied for three, a retail and 2 mail facilities and have been checking but it says no assignments in my assignment screen. They are no longer listed where I can view and apply for them. I'm just anxious I guess........

They call and assign shops by phone for the most part. Especially when you are just starting out with them. Once you are established some shops are self assign.

They do stick with their regular shoppers unless they can't fill a shop so you may not hear from them the first time you apply. Just keep trying and eventually you will get a shop.

I have enjoyed shopping for Maritz.

Most of the shops I have done for them have been small in fee ($6-$10) but the corresponding reports were simple and straight forward, so I think the pay was pretty much commesurate with the work.

Mailing the receipts with the invoice they provide is easy, beleive me, I wouldn't hassle it if it were a pain in the neck.

In fact, they make the whole thing easy because they ship me all my paper work along with any other items I need prior to my shop, it's all organized and ready.

I like Maritz...I'm just waiting for their higher paying shops. Does anyone know if the shops available to a shopper are based on time with them or number of shops, or is it just the luck (or lack there of) of what shops are near you?

As far as I can tell shops are based on miles from your home zip code. When they put a bunch out it is first come first serve. Thus if you live in some small podunk town then you won't get many. However, if you live in a major place like the San Francisco Bay Area, you get lots.

I have to agree that some of the pay is a bit low, but the reports are pretty simple.

It just what the client gives them as their sample of locations to shop.

A lot of the time, the major place for new shoppers aren't as good. Becuase of the seasoned shoppers take the shops the new shoppers usually do not get a chance at locations.

Hi All,

In my post regarding the gift cards I did not mean for everyone to assume it would be okay to use them.I posted the name of the person at Maritz who okay'd their use, so you all could see I had gotten this information from Maritz directly. You should always call your scheduler first to check on things like this. That said, everyone I have spoke with at Maritz has okay'd the use of them, and nothing has ever been said to me like "use a gift card as a last resort". I was told the purpose of paying at the pump was to see how fast pump activation took, if there was receipt paper in the pump printer, and to verify that the address on the paper receipt matched the store address (funny around here how many of them have different addresses on the pump receipts).

Using a gift card actually gives the client info on important payment issues just like using a CC would. For example, by using a gift card we have identified a problem with gift cards in my area. It seems they will usually scan at the pump, but they don't always scan inside. Due to some problems with gift cards not scanning inside which I then pay cash for (or use a different gift card to see if it goes through) as per the job instructions, I found out from stations that they have recieved bad batches of cards that wouldn't activate at all, or would only go through on the CRIND. I spoke to Maritz about this issue, and was told this is an important issue the client needs to be made aware of, as it impacts the thousands of customers who buy these cards.

Beverly Ann, I have NEVER had a problem swiping a gift card at a pump. It works just like using a cedit card, and like posted above you get a receipt that shows what you spent and it also lists your remaining balance. I take that back, I did have one shop where the pump would not take my gift card.It would go as far as authorizing the gift card, and telling me to pump the gas, but it never allowed the pump to dispense gas. I had to use it to pay for the gas inside. I was able to note that the CRIND was not out of order since a credit card customer paid at the same pump while I was there. I notated that the Crind accepted credit cards, but would not allow the pump to fully activate, even after the gift card was authorized. I called Maritz later to ask if they undertsood my explanantion and why I had paid inside. They had already finished completing my shop, and told me things like this are issues that happen, and need to be addressed, and that if a detailed explanantion is given as to why you had to pay inside, or a card doesn't work and you have to pay cash it still is an acceptable shop.

I have done over 50 of these shops using gift cards. I have been paid for every shop and have had no issues at all from Maritz about using them.

Always looking for great companies to work for in the SW OH, SE IN and Northern KY areas!

I have completed many shops for tnis project as well, and was told to use the gift cards by 2 Maritz schedulers., When completing more than 3 shops n a day with a credit card, it will wreak havoc with the card issuer, unless you use multiple credit cards. The gift cards work great, epsecially when trying to make the small inside purchase, (and seeing the reasction of the clerk).
The biggest bonus of using the card is that it helps me track my purchases from the project, and reconcile with my invoices and payments from the company.

Just a short update. It took almost three weeks before my applications for a couple of gas shops were accepted and I got a phone call from a scheduler. I think one of the reasons was because the gas stations were WAY OUT and it might have been difficult to get shoppers scheduled. Anyway, I've been impressed with my scheduler and the Maritz process. The materials were sent quickly and the website was easy to navigate. Uploading the photos was easy too.
I, too, am a shopper who likes to see more details in the shop descriptions before applying but when I called to ask about more details on shops I was assured that if the shop was too difficult/complicated, etc. that I could decline the shop.
I believe I'm going to really like shopping for this company and I'm glad for this forum because of the helpful folks. Thanks!
