Hey ladies, I hope you all can help me with this! 3 years ago I use some nair for the face to get rid of my hair on my upper lip. Well after just 2 minutes of it being on, it started to burn, so i rinse it off and was left with a chemical burn. My upper lip was red and still burning seriously. So I went to urgent care and got it tooken care of, but after a couple days I notice that my upper lip was getting darker, and darker. At that point it has left me with a dark shadow that looks like a mustache that is still there. I have tried a lot of lightening products to get rid of this and nothing seems to work. Its 3 years later and I still have this mustache shadow. After that incident I just stuck to waxing off my upper lip hair. Do u ladies know of any products that would premantely get rid of this shadow or lighten it up some? It is really embarssing for me when I go out, anywhere, because it is really noticable on me even from a distance. Because my skin is kind of a caramel tone this dark upper lip shadow stands out. Please help!!!! |

Sara....this really sounds like a problem that should be seen by a dermatologist.
If it is truly a chemical burn scar, there isn't a product on the market that will lighten it. It may take one of the newer treatments that can be handled through a dermatologist's office.
Also, if you still have the record of your visit to the emergency room three years ago, with help from what you learn now from the dermatologist, you may be able to get some sort of redress from the maker of Nair.
But, first and foremost, you should see a doctor about this. |

| I agree with Gail. While there are products on the market that are supposed to diminish the appearance of scars (Scar Therapy is one), I would be very reluctant to use an over-the-counter product on my face without first consulting a physician. My gynecologist runs a women's health practice and is certified in women's skin care--not exactly the same as being a dermatologist, but close. I would either consult someone with her experience or a dermatologist. |
