Harold,

On the Office Max, just download the POG, the scan sheet, the one page leave behind on the John Deere "shelf talkers" once.

Then print out the returns sheet (on the deleted titles) and the field form for each store.

That's only about 10-11 pages max overall I think.

I've got:

5 Fred's VG inventories (FREVG0110)
1 Office Max
2 Pepsi displays
4 Fl's
6 Anagram balloon assign.
1 Harris Teeter

For me, merchandising for Certified plus some mystery shopping with Maritz and MFI is my full-time job, so I take all the perm. assigns I can get.

What kind of location are you in? I live in a semi rural town 20,000 people and can't get crap for jobs. I can only do the audits that pay 7 dollars and expect me to print out like 16 pages and travel 15 minutes for 7 dollars. It seems I used to get alot more jobs from them. I have nothing bad on my record and often pick up last minute assignments when they are in a bind.

Also, black Friday I did a blitz merchandising assignment at Kohls, I loved it! One of my favorite assignments. Total freedom pretty much place whatever needs to be stocked in (section). Anyone ever do these?

I got a call at 2:30 today from CMS. Nicole left a message that went like this. This message is for ----. This is Nicole with Market Force & we are calling you because (insert 10 seconds of silence) never mind, I see an update on your record. I have no idea what that was about. I am seriously thinking about giving up my CMS work. I just finished figuring out mileage allowances for 2009. I put 6,461 miles on my car running around for CMS for which I got paid a total of $2,181. With an allowance of .35 a miles I have a loss of $75.35 for the year. (When the checks come in you don't think about the expenses involved in getting those checks.) Granted I am doing other things in the same stores at times & also on the way to the CMS stores but still these are the miles I put on the car. This is not counting paper, ink, time spent downloading, reporting travel time or the aggravation of dealing with them at times. I just can't decide if it is worth it or not anymore. I work PT as an employee for another company & I think I will just stick with them. Their assignments give you an entire week to do them which means I don't have to be making two trips some weeks to the same town because CMS wants it done on certain days. Will make my schedule a lot easier even if it doesn't save any miles.

Appears from some posts that Nicholle has had a few problems with several merchandisers. She removed one of my permanent DG and made a notation in the removal that I said I didn't want it any more. Fortunately I caught the error and after speaking to someone else had it reassigned permanently. I have gotten to the point where I know the company phone numbers and don't even answer my phone until they leave a message. Then I'm selective on who I call back after I learn who is calling me. I have numerous permanent assignments so I really don't look for anything else with them unless it's something due on the same day and in the same area of my permanent stores.

Thanks to all of you who provided an open ear and some advice. I find this type of forum with people who take time to share invaluable.
After careful consideration, I will make one more effort to reactivate my account, although being treated in this fashion is demeaning and not very motivating at all. In my defense, I took all the steps that were available to me. I called Certified, verified with the store that they, indeed, had no pharmacy, wrote this in my report and resubmitted my paperwork when it was questioned.
Since this incident and upon finding this forum, I have taken the time to research the the companies and apply with all those who have jobs in this area. I will post any positive results, should Certified reactivate my account.

Gayle--

I'll have a loss also this year. I wouldn't completely give up on CMS (w/ the exception of your Anagram WM maybe) b/c with this economy you never know what will happen. If you'll be in the area anyways, a few extra dollars can help out. As for phone calls, you can always screen them. . .CMS calls always come from a 518-244-XXXX number.

..remember..not all theee companies are active...Hallmark is slow for the last few months..Prism is a waste of time in Miami and most of the others are a hit and miss..the largest accounts are Convergence and Master Merchandisers and Certified with Certified being the most reliable in the Miami area..I have quit my main job and Merchandise full time grossing at around 600-800 a week normally and up to 1200 on a good week when the BIG 3.(Conv, Masters and Certified or Cast Retail are running blitz routes)..you have to take all jobs coming at you and then deconflict the schedule conflicts later because 50% of all jobs get shifted by date or have the flexibility to be moved around a little...I spend a lot of time on goggle maps and Microsoft Mappoint planning the routes because that proved to be so crucial in the Miami area..where moving during peak morning traffic is impossibe..Yeah my schedule is a beast but I wouldnt trade this life for a 9-5 and I will always try to share anything info i have with this blog so we can all get paid..

Jonathan I do screen my calls from them. That's why I didn't answer the phone Sunday. I thought they were calling me to do a last minute assignment. The saga continues. I get in the car this morning to go to work & there is a voice mail on my cell phone ( I leave it off when I am home because of no reception in this area) Well, here's Nicole again (not sure when she called) She proceeds to leave me a message that I have an Anagram balloon assignment overdue & it has to be completed by 4 P.M. & reported no later than 10 P.M. Huh? I call her ext, no one there, leave message, hang up & call back to reg. number. The person answering the phone figured that Nicole must have called my cell phone first Sun. , got no answer, than called the house & then noticed that I had already reported there was no helium & no delivery date regarding the 12/28 visit. She said everything's taken care of, no problem. I come home, boot up the site & there in the messages is one stating that there is anagram balloon visit available for any takers. At MY store for 12/28. Geeez . Call again, get transferred to a scheduler (small miracle right there) She can't figure out what is going on either. She sees the report I filed for no helium for this visit, etc; She goes back & forth & finally says that what happened was although I reported no helium was available, somebody left the assignment open when they shouldn't have, even though it was not posted on my schedule. During all this we had a discussion about this store & its problems. Lack of helium, can't find balloons, no one person in charge at the store, etc; I asked her if she wanted me to make the same precall for next week's visit. She said she was talking to her supervisor & they are deciding what to do with this store. I actually got her laughing when I said "I can tell you what to do with the store but it's not pretty." Anyway there is a chance they might just drop this store I guess. Won't hurt my feelings or my pocketbook much either. It is only $16 month & sometimes not that. I figured out my mileage after posting last night as if I was only working for 2nd company & it comes out about the same as all my stores for both companies are in the same towns. So I guess I'll hang on to CMS for a while longer if they don't drive me batty first. LOL

After 35 years in merchandising, I was laid off from my last job in June 2009. I have yet to find work ( I live in a very rural area). What amazed me was the amount of money I spent on gas, car upkeep, computer/printer supplies. Since I was reimbursed for travel, supplies, etc. I knew money was going out, but not HOW MUCH!!! With the way merchandising has changed over the years, I honestly don't think I would re-enter the merchandising field again. I ould make more money remaining stationary in a "regular" (UGH!) job and not have the wear and tear on my car, dealing with all the different personalities, the companies and on and on...........
It is sad as I loved merchandising, but not so much the past 2 or 3 years..............

Gayle,

I have dealt with what I thought were rough WM's, but I think that one you have takes the cake. After reading all the trouble you've had, I would agree with what to do with it.

Although you have to read what an associate in a WM said to me today: While blowing up balloons, an assoc. comes up to me and says: "I thought we didn't blow up balloons anymore at this store." Sure, they stopped inflating for customers (i.e. store bought balloons in the packages of like 30, 50, etc.), but has she not noticed the large balloon corral in her store?? You can't miss it. Does she think the balloons inflate themselves??

Well, it is official. As of today I no longer work for CMS. Fate stepped in & decided for me. You've been reading about the confusion regarding some of my assignments lately. (i.e.Anagram Balloon assignments) This morning I am on the way to work, intending to do some DVD assignments for them, turn on my cell phone & there are 2 NEW voice mails from "Market Force" Call # 1 tells me that since I did not have anyone sign off on my paperwork at one of my FLs last week I will not be paid unless I can prove I was there. Never mind that I scanned the new DVDs & reported which ones weren't in the system or that I reported Manager Not Available. Which is what we were told to do in the past, we even have/had a leave behind form for this purpose. Voice Mail #2 says that she (acct. mngr) had just called the store & was told that I had not been there since 12/16 so they were removing me from this store & removing me from their system for "falsifying a report" and I would not be paid for the visit. I called the ext given & was told that in order to prove I had been there I would have to provide a copy of the sign in sheet for that day. I explained about all the staff being busy that day & was told in return that on the days we are leaving any promo paperwork behind it is REQUIRED to have someone sign our forms. I let her know that I was not aware of this change in policy. And mentioned that if she would check my file she should see that in 4 years I probably only had an unsigned report 2-3 times total and that I never "flaked" on an assignment. I asked if she wanted me to go ahead & do the work for the rest of the week/today & was told yes. So now I have to drive in an entirely different direction to get this sign in sheet to make a copy of. I got the sheet had the CSM verify & sign it for an added precaution . BTW this CSM said if the company still gave me a hard time to have them call her & she would verify that I was there. However on the way from my house to this store I did a slow burn at being accused of falsifying a report & at all the BS that has been going on with them lately. After picking up the sheet, I called CMS back to let them know I got the sheet but that I did not want to be put back in the system because I no longer wanted to work for CMS. She actually asked me if I was going to finish up this week's projects. I said no, I'm done. When I e-mailed her the copy of the sign in sheet I had a few more things to say about why I was giving up this work. I tried to explain my reasons in a calm manner but I did let them know that I resented being accused of something I didn't & never would do. I don't know about the rest of you but I just got tired of kowtowing to this company for very little pay & no appreciation for the work done. Now that I am locked out of the system I am going to have to rely on all of you to let me know when the DDs arrive. I should have 2 more coming incl one this week. I'll be around from time to time.

Gayle, I SO understand and have thought about giving them up also. I just figured up how much I've been paid from them this year, less than $1300. I haven't figured up the mileage yet, but I'm sure I will be taking a loss on my taxes. I've taken any new work lately. I have 5 perm assignments that total between $48 and $71 per month. Hardly worth it.

Last visit to my DG, which pays $6 visit, a new District Manager cornered me and basically informed me that I need to make an appointment to visit and be escorted during my visit. I just about blew my top. All this for a measly $6 in that store. If I didn't have 4 stores in her area, and had more work eslsewhere, I probably would have LOST it.

Right now, I only have 4 DG, 1 F$ with Certified along with 2 dvd jobs from Spar.

Plus I found out yesterday that I did not make enough over the last 9 months, thru employee companies, to draw unemployment. Just $300 short. Can't win for losing.
