People email me and ask this, so I thought I would just post the answer. Not that anyone will read it, but when they ask, I can pioint them here.

Every application for a forum account is reviewed.

50% of all applications are fake accounts by spammers. By reviewing them and deleting these people, the members are not subjected to whatever they were planning on doing. Most likely flood the forum with garbage.

Of the remaining:

5% already have an account. Yes, the form clearly states that if you already have an account, email me and I'll help you fix it with your new email address. But, they create a duplicate. Waste of my time and theirs.

20% can't follow directions.
Actually it is higher than that. 20% don't follow to the point their application is denied. The rest get approved, but told to fix what they did wrong.

So, out of every 100 applications only about 35 get OKed. That is why it takes that long. Don't blame me, blame the spammers and people who can't read or follow directions.

ciao,
Ray

I read it and found it both imformative and amusing. And it has been so long ago that I honestly don't remember for sure, but I don't recall it taking very long to get approved.

Going thru pending accounts and found one who applied for an account 10/22/2004. Registered and never logged in again. Applied for a 2nd account on 05/19/2007. Confirmed it and never logged in again. Now, she is applying for a 3rd account.

Ray-you have no confidence in us! I read your posting. And, I too have forgotten how long it took to be approved. It's been so long. LOL.
Your posting is good info for newbies... and for people like the lady who is obviously moving to the beat of a sloooow drummer. According to my calculations, if you approve her again, she'll be back in 5 years requesting to be approved...again.

I believe the time you spend on the process pays off. We have had very few folk who have tried spamming since I have been a member, and very few (tht I have been aware of, anyway) who have blatantly violated the rules of the forum. Seems like you do a good job of keeping this a very friendly site to visit.

I appreciate your efforts. They are quite successful.

Pam, you must post from a Smart Phone? You have been remarkably consistent with your insight. My thanks!

I just deleted over 200 fake accounts pending. Any energy I would have to look at the real sign ups is killed. I hate scammers.

I approved 26 members. Now, I'm having lunch.
